No matter what… Reason with people

“Never get angry,” the Don had instructed. “Never make a threat. Reason with people.” The word “reason” sounded so much better in Italian, ragione, to rejoin. The art of this was to ignore all insults, all threats; to turn the other cheek.

For several years, I have been in several professions, tried different businesses, met a lot of people and encountered a number of situations that I needed to negotiate on something. Looking back at these experiences, I made some great decisions and made some bad ones too. There were times, by mere talking, I get the results I wanted. There are also times, I didn’t get what exactly what I wanted. And several times, I didn’t get it at all.

I have been pondering on some of those experiences wherein I get the results that I have wanted. Listed down the things I have done to make it happen according to what I have imagined, I have noticed some common things that I have undertaken to get it right. As I have read the book The Godfather over and over again, “Reason with people.” has been in all of what I have achieved. Whether small or big accomplishments, reasoning with people have been a great weapon to get things done. Whether its for the good or for something that is somehow twisted, with the right reasoning, I got what I wanted. And looking back to those failures and other misfortunes, mixing anger with thoughts have produced not so ideal results. And making a threat… did not produce anything good at all. It even made it worse.

I won’t go into the details of those experiences, but if you’d like to know, ask me…
